Annam's Batter Storage Box Medium (இட்லி மாவு டப்பா) is the traditional Chettinad half dabba, an idli and dosa batter storage container made of rust-resistant stainless steel. It is a wide, shallow container with a lid, made for keeping idli and dosa batter fresh in the fridge.
Best for: Idli and dosa batter for a family of 3–4, the most popular size for everyday use.

How to use
Wash and dry the box before first use. Pour in freshly ground batter, leaving some space at the top for the batter to rise as it ferments. Close the lid, ferment, then keep it in the fridge. Use a clean, dry ladle each time.
Care
Wash with mild soap and water soon after use. Avoid steel wool and harsh scrubbers. Dry the box and lid fully before storing.
Frequently asked questions
Which size do I need?
The Medium suits a family of 3–4 grinding batter two or three times a week. Smaller families can choose the Small, and larger families the Large.
Can I keep it in the fridge?
Yes. Stainless steel is safe for the fridge, and the lid keeps the batter covered.
Can I store other things in it?
Yes. It also suits chutney, curd, leftover curries, and dry items such as rava or sugar.
How is it different from the Full Dabba?
The Batter Storage Box is the half dabba, wide and shallow for batter. The Full Dabba is taller and deeper, made for dry groceries such as rice, atta and dal.
Is it airtight?
No. The lid fits firmly and keeps the batter covered, but it is not airtight.
Do the sizes fit inside each other?
Yes. All four sizes fit one inside the other, so the set of 4 takes the space of the largest box.
