Annam's Kadai Type 7 Idli Pot is a traditional Chettinad-style idli pot, known in Tamil as Idli Satti (இட்லி சட்டி) or Idli Panai (இட்லி பானை), made of Salem 304-grade stainless steel. Its wide, kadai-shaped pot has two side handles and holds plenty of water, and one plate steams 7 idlis at a time. Without the plate, the pot works as a regular kadai for everyday cooking. It works on both gas and induction stoves.

Best for: soft idlis for small families of two to three and quick everyday breakfasts.

How to use

Pour water into the pot, keeping it below the level of the plate, and bring it to a boil. Grease the plate or line it with an idli cloth, fill each mould with batter, place the plate in the pot and close the lid. Steam on a medium flame for 10–12 minutes, rest for 2 minutes, then remove the idlis.

Care

Wash with mild soap and warm water. Avoid steel wool and harsh scrubbers, and dry fully after washing.

Should I choose a plate with holes or without holes?
Plates with holes let the steam pass through and are used with an idli cloth. Plates without holes are greased and the batter is poured in directly.

Can I use the pot for other cooking?
Yes. Without the idli plate, the kadai-shaped pot works as a regular kadai for frying, curries, poriyal and other everyday cooking.

Does it work on induction?
Yes, it works on induction as well as gas stoves.

What is the difference from the 7 Idli Pot Set?
Both use the same 7 idli plate and lid. This one has a wider, kadai-shaped pot (11 inch) with side handles that also works as a kadai; the 7 Idli Pot Set has a regular pot (10.5 inch) and is slightly lower in price.

Does it rust?
No, it does not rust with normal use when dried after washing.
