Ingredients for Mothagam
To make Pillayarpatti Mothagam, you will need the following ingredients:
1. 1 Cup of Raw rice
2. ¼ Cup of Moong dal
3. 1 Cup of jaggery powder (Indian sugar)
4. ¼ Cup of grated Coconut
5. 1/ Teaspoon of Cardamom powder
6. 3 Tablespoons of ghee (clarified butter)
7. 2 ½ cups of Water-
Step-by-Step method for making Pillayarpatti Mothagam:
1. Dry roast moong dal till nice aroma comes. Grind rice and moong dal in a mixer coarsely. Alternatively Kolukattai Maavu can be used instead of Raw Rice flour.
2. Cook rice and moong dal with water. Close the pan with a lid and low the flame till done.
3. Dissolve the jaggery powder in little water and strain it. Add this to the rice mixer and mix well.
4. Add cardamom powder, grated coconut, ghee and mix thoroughly.
5. Stir well and make smooth dough. Allow it to cool.
6. Grease the palm with little ghee and make lime size balls out of the dough.
7. Cook in the steam for about 10 minutes to 15 minutes.

Add jaggery syrup according to your taste.
